8-week MBSR

Mindulness-Based Stess Reduction (MBSR)

In this intensive training, you will learn to access your own natural ability to take care of yourself.  You will actively engage in finding ways to live with greater balance and ease especially during challenging times. You will practice tools that will help you cope with stress and pain and manage the situations in your life which cause upset and frustration.  You will also learn to be more fully present moment by moment.

MBSR is proven to be effective in helping to treat: anxiety and stress related issues (family, work, relationships); physical issues (such as asma, cancer, chronic illnesses and pain, fibromyalgia, headeaches, high blood pressure); sleep problems and depression.

What to expect

All participants must attend an introductory session followed by a breif (10-15 minute) individual meeting with the teacher.  The purpose of this session is to meet the teacher and review eligability for the program.  It is possible that the teacher may suggest delaying the course to a later date or suggest that other options may be more suitable.

Eight, weekly 2.5 hour group sessions

One full day (7.5 hours) session on a Saturday between session 6 and 7.

In the event that a participant is unable to attend the first session or the full day session or knows prior to the start that 2 or more sessions will be missed, that participant will be asked to defer participation to the next available course.

MBSR requires a strong commitment to be actively engaged.  It is recommended that participants dedicate the time (weekly sessions + daily practice) for the duration of the course.  The eight week course is generally enough time for participants tonotice the benefits of practice.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Mindfulness is about bringing our attention to the present moment with curiosity, kindness and compassion.  It is about settling in to the moment just as it is, and acknowledging that things are the way they are.  From this open and grounded position, we are more likely to respond to situations in our lives with creativity.  We are also more able to access our values, our knowledge and our intuition.

In this intensive introduction to mindful meditation, you will learn to access your own natural ability to take care of yourself.  You will actively engage in finding ways to live with greater balance and ease especially during challenging times. You will practice skills that will help you cope with stress and pain and manage the situations in your life which cause upset and frustration.  You will also learn to be more fully present moment by moment. The MBSR curriculum includes, but is not limited to meditation, dialogue, reflective inquiry and mindful movement.
