My name is Julie Slater. I am an Occupational Therapist/ Psychotherapist and a Qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor. I have been an Occupational Therapist for over 20 years and have practiced in a variety of practice settings. I have experience in mental health, physical health and pediatrics. As a therapist, I practice from a client-centered perspective. I have maintained a personal daily meditation practice for over 14 years and have been teaching mindfulness techniques and MBSR for 9 years. I have seen meditation transform the lives of clients, and in many ways, it has transformed mine.
I believe that learning to bring our attention to the present moment and settling in there, with our experience just as it is, has an unimaginable power to transform and to heal. It is from this settled space that we can access our intuition, values, knowledge, skills and inner strength.
Mission
To create a place/space/environment where all people can learn through practice and meaningful participation, to become a light for themselves, their families, their communities and the world. Being "a light" simply means having the ability to look within ourselves for the answers we seek, and to trust what we find there.

About Occupational Therapy
Very simply, occupational therapists work with clients so that they can do the things that they want to do, or need to do. There is an understanding that humans are physical, emotional and spiritual beings, who are shaped by their environment. Therefore the treatment is focused on the body, mind and spirit of the person. as well the effects their environment has on their wellbeing.

About Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
MBSR is an 8-week intensive introduction to meditation. This program was started by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. I have attended trainings with Jon Kabat-Zinn and have become qualified to teach MBSR through UMass Med School.
